5 days / 4 nights
Day 1: Bangkok – Mae Sot
We meet at New Road Guesthouse around 20.00 (please ask the service guide for exact time of departure). From here we travel by car to the bus terminal and onwards by bus to Mae Sot. (Remember to bring a warm sweater for the night bus as the air-condition can be quite effective!) We arrive in Mae Sot the following morning around 05.00.
Day 2: Mae Sot – Umphang (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
After breakfast we go for a short ride to the Thai-Burmese border market at the river Moi. After lunch we go by public Songthaew (half-open pick-up truck) to Umphang. It is a beautiful 4-hour ride through the mountains with over 1,000 turns on the road. (if you suffer from motion sickness this is a good time to take medication to avoid nausea.) Accommodation for the night is in a local eco-friendly guest house.

Day 3: Thee Lor Lay (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
Before sunrise we drive to Doi Hua Mot, the tallest mountain in the area, in hopes of a view of mist cloaking the mountains. We drive to the Karen village of Palatha where our luggage and food is packed onto elephants. We board rafts at Palatha. The first part of the river is rather calm and the second contains rapids. (Keep your camera in a watertight bag and bring along sun tan lotion, a swimming suit, a towel and sandals.) The rafting takes four to five hours depending on the current. We break at the riverbank for lunch and a swim. Later in the afternoon we arrive at the campground where the guide will pitch our tents. Thee Lor Lay waterfall lies about two kilometers from the camp and after a short break we raft to the waterfall in a rubber boat. Before sunset we return to the camp. The first section can be strenuous for rowers because they must paddle against the current. We can walk along the riverbanks for the last section!

Day 4: Trekking (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
After breakfast we hike the area. (Elephants carry our luggage and packs.) The trek takes about seven hours and we eat lunch in the jungle. Only locals use the path there are few other trekkers. After arriving in Palatha we can relax and take a walk around the village with the guides and perhaps visit a Karen home. You will spend the night in a bamboo hut in Palatha House.

Day 5: Palatha – Umphang – Mae sot – Bangkok/Chiang Mai (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)
After breakfast we ride in a songthaew through the mountains to Umphang. After lunch we drive to Maesot, again in a songthaew (~four hours). Here our trip ends. You may choose to take the overnight bus to Bangkok or depart the following morning for Chiang Mai by bus. You may also take the public songthaew to Mae Sariang (~six to seven hours) on the following morning and explore even more of northern Thailand on your own.
