Sukhothai - 3 days

DAY 1 (-/Lunch/-)

Departure from Chiang Mai early morning by minivan. Near Lampang we visit the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, which is considered by many as one of the most remarkable and exciting tourist destinations in Northern Thailand. Here you have the opportunity to enjoy the elephants’ company and participate in a short elephant trekking. Then we visit the bustling Thung Kwai Market, where you get the chance to familiarize yourself with a very local Thai market. Afterwards, we continue towards Phrae, where the rest of the day will be at leisure.

DAY 2 (Breakfast/Lunch/-)

In the morning we take a bike ride around the idyllic Phrae town where we will have a chance to visit the former regional headquarters of the Danish company and former shipping, ØK.

During our trip we will visit the local market.

Later, we proceed with the minivan and visit the beautiful Novice Temple. Here we have a great opportunity to learn about Buddhism and also become familiar with life as a Buddhist monk. After being introduced to the Buddhist faith we will enjoy a nice lunch, and then our minivan will take us to Sukhothai.

Sukhothai - 3 days

Sukhothai in Northern Thailand was founded in the 13th century. Sukhothai, which literally means "Dawn of Happiness", was the first truly independent Thai Kingdom and enjoyed a golden age under King Ramkhamhaeng, credited for having created the Thai alphabet. The magnificent temples and monuments in Sukhothai has been lovingly restored, and Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-see for all travelers.

The charming and somewhat unusual city of Lampang with horse-drawn carriages, and Lampang province with the King's white elephants in the Thailand Elephant Conservation Center, is certainly also worth a visit, just like Sukhothai.

Phrae is the former center of Thailand's teak industry. Phrae features many old teak mansions and protected forests ideal for walking. Phrae is an old and important community in Northern Thailand, founded after Chiang Mai had been established as the capital of the Lanna Thai kingdom. Phrae contains one of the largest reserves of teak forests in the country and is located in Northern Thailand on the banks of the Yom River, 555 kilometers north of Bangkok.

Like Chiang Mai, Phrae retained its walled old town while the new town grew up around it. While the new town is charming enough, the old town seems sleepy and is lined with teak houses that are excellent examples of traditional Thai architecture, and a number of beautiful temples. Many of these huge teak mansions were built by European traders who were involved in the teak trade back in the 19th century. In the surrounding provinces, there are several national parks, some remote hill tribe villages, and a number of growths of teak which is now largely protected.
