Chiang Mai City Tour

One of the main highlights of any trip to the Rose of the North, Chiang Mai, is a visit to the famous Doi Suthep Mountain on the outskirts of the city. Doi Suthep (1,676 m) is one of the two peaks of mountains located west of Chiang Mai, the second peak is known as Doi Oui. We visit the top of Doi Suthep where we will have a spectacular view of Chiang Mai city.

One of the most beautiful temples in northern Thailand is located on the top of Doi Suthep. The very sacred Wat Doi Phratat Suithep was founded in 1383 and is a major symbol of the Buddhist traditions of northern Thailand. A road to the temple was built in 1935 by the Karen people.

After our visit to Doi Suthep, we will make a stop at the foot of Doi Suthep to see the beautiful Huay Kaew Waterfall, which is a fascinating 3-level waterfall, 10 meters high and with water all year round.

We drive from the waterfall where we follow Huay Kaew road past the campus of Chiang Mai University and then visit Studio Naenna Gallery. Studio Naenna was founded by Patricia Chessman in 1987 and shows handmade one-of-a-kind textiles based on decades of tradition. The studio is famous, and Mrs. Chessman advises the Thai Art Department at Thammasat University. The gallery has a small shop where you can buy interesting crafts.

Afterwards, we drive to the un-touristy Nimmanhaemin Road, which is the main dining and shopping area for the young and middle-aged generations in Chiang Mai. Here we find some of the best restaurants in town, and there will be a chance to do a little shopping or just enjoy the atmosphere at one of the many small and charming cafes. We eat our lunch at a nice restaurant where you will have the opportunity to sample some of the delicious local dishes.

After lunch and free time at Nimmanhaemin Road, we drive to the old center of Chiang Mai. Here we will give an introduction to the Old Town.

Then we drive to Chinatown and show you the fresh market, and also the flower market . This is a very good chance to experience the vibrant Chinatown which most tourists in Chiang Mai never see during their visit. After Chinatown, we visit Wat Chai Mongkol. This may not be the most famous temple in Chiang Mai, but on the other hand many local people use this temple. Here you will have a chance to observe an operating temple. From the temple, we will take a cruise on the Mae Ping River of about an hour.

We end our trip at a local family, where we will enjoy some mixed fruit. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Lunch included.
