Koh Haa: Koh Haa means ‘five islands’ in Thai, and is named after the five spectacular limestone islands, whose sheer cliffs plunge into the beautifully clear water that surrounds them. The shallow lagoon slopes gently into deeper water and makes this dive site a perfect destination for snorkellers and divers of all levels. The exceptional visibility Koh Haa is famous for, and the huge variety of corals gardens, cathedral-like caves and fish, make Koh Haa an unforgettable dive experience. For the more adventurous diver, there are various swim throughs and caverns to explore. The colourful soft corals and the light that finds its way in through the entrances, give the caverns a magical effect.
Koh Phi Phi: The dive sites around the Phi Phi islands offer overhangs, swim-throughs, canyons and gorges, hosting some large Gorgonians and amazing colourful soft corals and anemones. A huge diversity of marine life can be seen here, from Cleaner Shrimps and Anemone Crabs to Bearded Scorpion-fish, colourful Lionfish and brave little Clownfish. One of the main attractions of the Bida islands (South of Koh Phi Phi) is the Leopard Shark. Although the Leopard Shark bears the name ‘shark’ it is a very docile and curious creature. Leopard Sharks spend most of the day resting on the sandy bottom, and, like most sharks, are most active and do their hunting at night.
These two dive sites are often referred to as one of the top ten dive sites in the world. They are situated only 35 kilometres south of Koh Lanta, a one-hour speedboat ride. The rock formation of Hin Daeng (Red Rock) breaks the surface and slopes gently down to a depth of 50 metres. The walls and rocks are covered with red and purple soft corals and anemones. These corals are home to millions of small reef fish, Boxer Shrimps, Octopus and Giant Morays. Schools of Jack Fish, Barracudas and Rainbow Runners circle around this reef to feed. Between the months of November and March, Manta Rays are often found around here and you might even come eye-to-eye with the gentle giant, the Whale Shark, which is spotted several times a year it this site. Hin Muang (Purple Rock) is located only 500 metres away from Hin Daeng. The top of the reef starts at a depth of around 12 metres and drops down to 70 metres, making it the deepest dive site in Thailand. Schools of Tuna Fish, Barracuda and Jack Fish circle in the blue, but on a lucky day you might even come across a Grey Reef Shark or a Manta Ray.
Shark Point, Anemone Reef & King Cruiser: King Cruiser: On May the 4th, 1997, the 85 metres passenger ferry “King Cruiser” left the harbour of Phuket for a routine trip to the Phi Phi islands. The ferry strayed several kilometres off course and hit Anemone Reef. The ferry sank in less than one hour, but the 561 passengers on board at the time were all rescued and taken to safety. The King Cruiser now lies on a sandy bottom at 30 metres depth and is covered with corals and marine life. Large schools of Jack-fish and Snappers hunt around the wreck and the wreck itself is a perfect hiding place for huge Lionfish, Wrasses and Cleaner Shrimps.
Anemone Reef is a colourful pinnacle covered with millions of anemones feeding on the currents. The pinnacle starts at around 7 metres and slopes down to a depth of 25 metres, onto a sandy area. You can find Seahorses, Anemone Crabs, Yellow-headed Morays, colourful Lionfish, Devil Scorpionfish and much more. Banded Sea Snakes can be seen swimming through the Anemone’s tendrils and Leopard Sharks make their home in the sandy areas around Anemone Reef. A Hawksbill Turtle is often spotted cruising around the shallower parts of the pinnacle. Shark Point is located very close to the King Cruiser. It is a magnificent dive site where currents are not uncommon. Shark Point thanks its name to the presence of the Leopard Sharks, who can be found hanging around in the sandy areas. The rock formation breaks the surface and slopes gently down to a depth of 20 metres. The rocks are covered with Gorgonian Sea Fans, Sponges and spectacular pink and purple soft corals. The high levels of nutrients in the water attracts a big variety of marine life, which makes Shark Point one of the most spectacular dive sites in this area.
